Ep #48: The Language of Money: Rewrite Your Money Story and Claim Your Financial Power

Hello, beautiful coach. Oh my gosh. I have been busy this past week since we last connected. I laugh though because busy for me means being highly creative, highly productive, making important decisions that move the needle in my business. But what it does not mean is working tons of hours because that's just not what I do. Working lots of hours is not what I am available for. That's what I love about having a coaching business, right?

So for example, this week I delivered the kickoff session for one of my clients that I'm doing a VIP day with. So fun. So exciting. I wrote six promotional emails. I led a group coaching call with my certification students. We officially launched The Money Coach School Coaching community, which is exclusive to all of my clients in all my various coach trainings.

I created the new outline for the next round of Secret Energy of Money, which we are opening enrollment for in just a few weeks. I created brand new money coaching exercises for our next round of Secret Energy of Money. I wrote and recorded this podcast.

Personally, I napped nearly every day. I rode my horses. I took my riding lessons. I clocked in 15 minutes nearly every day on the treadmill that sits in Richard's office. I started my new money journal. I felt into what it feels like to be on a path of success. So that's been my week. Lots of exciting changes in my business, lots of new and exciting projects that we're working on, and lots of time doing what I love, both personally and in the business.

I actually don't spend a lot of time or energy thinking about time management. I was thinking about this recently. I just don't do that because my rules around time are actually really simple. Horses always come first, always. I keep a lot of open time in my calendar. I keep meetings down to usually one or two a week. I stay focused on serving clients in ways that delight them. I relate every task and project and activity to creating income. I start and end the workday about the same time every day. So I start about 11:00, and I end at 4:00, maybe 5:00. Really simple.

Now I had not intended to talk about time here today, but it's fun to share with you a glimpse into my lifestyle. I promise I will do more of that in future episodes for certain.

So today we're talking about three money truths that support you in skyrocketing your relationship with money. I also have a simple way that you can tell if you're using limiting language about money and how to fix that on the spot. Now, if you're new to the show, because we've had a lot of you subscribe recently, then I'll share with you that I'm Kendall SummerHawk, leader of the Money Coach School and The Money Coach School Podcast, which is where you're here today.

I have been teaching and coaching about money almost since the very beginning of my business, which I started now more than 23 years ago. I've been teaching and coaching about money in groundbreaking ways that have made a pivotal shift in the lives of thousands and thousands of women literally around the world.

One of the key discoveries that I've made is that shifting your relationship with money, transforming those outdated beliefs that no longer serve you and seeing yourself as a woman of wealth, it does not have to be difficult or emotionally painful. Money work, yes, it is work, but it can be light bulb moment type of work. It does not have to mean digging into years and years of therapy, right? I mean, we're coaches, we're not therapists.

So right now this is a whole new chapter for you. The reason is because women in the world of coaching like you are in a very different place than we've ever been before. We have proven that we can make money. Even if you haven't made money yet in your coaching business, you're just starting. That's okay. Overall, women have proven in the coaching industry, the ability to make a lot of money. The internet has given you power and opportunity beyond what you could have previously imagined.

But your relationship with money may not have caught up. It's like you're growing and changing, but your relationship with money hasn't yet. It's not meant to be that way. Your relationship with money is not supposed to be static. It's not supposed to be fixed in one place, destined never to change. That's what sparked me to create these three money truths for you.

So money truth, number one, we're going to dive right in here is if you're not skyrocketing your relationship with money then you're not going to be able to grow. Now the why behind this is because you'll always be caught in the same money habits or money thinking or money beliefs and money dramas that you've been experiencing up until now.

I know that you're always evolving. You're a seeker. I know that because I'm a seeker as well. what I discovered on my path to making nearly $30 million at this point in my coaching business is that skyrocketing your relationship with money is always, always, always the best fastest step to creating a next level leap forward. Always. Did I already say that?

Money truth number two, every time you are at a crossroads, at an intersection where the path you're taking is into a new level. I know I'm mixing metaphors here. That's fine. But the path you're taking is into a new level. You start that new path by cleaning out the gunk in your relationship with money.

It's like every time you want to bring in new energy, new opportunities. The first thing I do is I clean out a drawer, right? Same with money. You clear out the money gunk in your thinking and your beliefs and your emotions to make way for the new money to come in. It's like you're making space for it to come in. Where I like to start that clean out is letting go of the old money story that I've been operating from for the past two, three, four years.

That leads me to money truth number three, your past does not determine your future. Oh my gosh. I love this one so much. Your past money story is the one that came from your upbringing, but it goes so much deeper than what everybody says, what did the adults around you say about money or what were their actions with money? It just is not that simple. That's a very surface way of looking at your past money story. Here's why.

Because when you were younger, you heard whatever those words were, and you either understood them or you didn't, most likely you didn't because you were really young. But what you did do is you felt the emotions that came with those words. You picked up on the vibe that was in your household.

Maybe those emotions that you felt were feelings like fear or confusion or disappointment or insecurity. So here you are as a girl, as a young girl, hearing and seeing things that you may or may not have understood, but you knew how you felt, and you linked those feelings to money. This is the key to your past money story is that you have entangled linked feelings to money.

Then what happens is you carry those thoughts and feelings about money forward so that money isn't just money anymore. It's something that sparks thoughts and feelings that you don't want to think or feel. Fast forward to now, you're in business for yourself.

And yet, and yet below the surface at an unconscious level, your business is being run by the thoughts and feelings you took on from the adults around you when you were young, when you were a little girl. So no wonder money blocks keep springing up or unexpectedly getting in the way of you achieving your highest potential, and you experiencing your greatest earning power. It's like money groundhog day, right? So no matter how much you make in a day, a week, a month or a year, you find yourself in the same place again. 

So I want to give you a paradigm shift, and here's what it is. With your money story of the past, whatever it is, you can reframe the meaning given to it because you are no longer willing to stand for that old meaning to keep defining you. You can take back your power from what happened long ago. You can see what happened through a new lens, and that new lens can release you from the emotional baggage of the old story. You can do that in the blink of an eye. You can begin retelling your past money story through a new perspective of empowerment.

When you do that, what's happening is you're now freeing yourself to stop repeating patterns and to start living into the empowering new money story that you desire for yourself. This is exactly just one of the many coaching topics that we coach on inside the Secret Energy of Money mastermind.

But to support you here today, one strategy I want to give you is to become aware if you're using what I call the language of absolutes, which creates what I call a money drama loop. So language of absolutes, let me talk about this for just a second.

When I'm coaching women on money and their businesses, which is what we coach on together, the money and the business. I hear them say things like I always, or I never, or I can't because, or I keep, or I need to make some money. Those are examples of what I call the language of absolutes. The language of absolutes creates a lot of limitation and stress and frustrated ambition. I know because that's how I feel when I find myself slipping into it.

All you need to do when you notice yourself using anything in the language of absolutes is switch it up. So you can replace I never, I can't, or I keep, or I need with one simple sentence starter. It is this. What is possible for me is, and fill in the blank. What is possible for me is. Then let your brain and your creativity and your intuition take you to that place of possibility. You are going to feel a positive shift inside, I promise. 

Now, you know, I'm a money feminist. I am a champion of your right to claim and own your financial power and to reach for money goals beyond what society has said you as a woman are capable of achieving and to do it without apology. My vision is to create a world where women hold genuine money power. My reason is very simple. Money is power. Money is choice. Money is freedom. The world changes for the better when women have money. For the first time in our planet's history, you as a woman have the opportunity to earn, to spend, and save how you choose and to be self-led with money.
